I would like to know if it is possible to change the +/- direction of the tiptronic lever action when in manual mode. ie pull back for + upchange. (but leave the steering wheel change as is). I am sure it should only require 2 wires to swap over but which 2?

Sorted !
I have now managed to change the +/- orientation of my lever which I now find much more natural to operate.
As it turned out it was very easy to do (and swap back if required at a later date - 10 mins max).
Should any other tiptronic owner wish to try this I will put the effort in to explain how it was done.

Hi George,
There is no need to remove the console or shift gate. If you look at the tunnel on the opposite side to the OBC diagnostics plastic cover, there is a carpeted flap about 4" x 21/2" secured with 2 screws. Remove this flap and then the plastic clamp/tie holding down the wiring loom (using a flat bladed screwdriver, lift it up off the threaded stud). The connector you need to alter can be seen held flat to the tunnel. Gently ease out the side retaining clips a little as you pull out the socket side nearest the front of the car. The 2 wires to swap are on pin 1 - BROWN/red & pin 2 - BROWN/yellow. If you slide a v/fine screwdriver down the wire into the socket it will release the tiny plastic retaining clip. When you replace the pins make sure that they are fully home and snap into place. (Tip - when fixing the carpeted flap back, trim the area around the clip to prevent the screw from binding on the fibres and glue.) Even though I found this job relatively straight forward, please only attempt it yourself if you are dexterous with small plastic clips etc. There is no need to force anything or strain any wires ! If you want, you can remove the bank of switches ahead of the gear lever and just about view the socket from the top to confirm its location etc is the same as mine, a 1997 Targa. My car is also RH drive and I had to work wedged upside down under the steering wheel so I'm assuming the task is going to be alot easier on a left hooker.
Good Luck Mark

Have you altered the markings on the shift gate?
