Great Form! I am purchasing a 1997 C4s with <30k miles. (Sold my 996!) I am very, very excited about my "new" 993 ;D, but I am concerned regarding 2 major issues I have come across during intensive web information searches and the PCA forums : 1. the premature valve guide wear and 2. the clogging of the air injection ports. How concerned should I be ?(Just spent about 50k!!) Is there anything that can be done to prevent / minimize these problems? Are they universal to every 993? Thanks for your input!

Lots of info regarding this on the Rennlist board. There's a pretty extensive post that basically states that the carbon build up is mostly attributable to high oil consumption resulting from the worn valve guides. See if you can find out from the current owner how many miles between adding a quart of oil. If it's 1,000 or less that's a pretty strong indicator of worn valve guides. Here's a link to the Rennlist thread: forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=91905&highlight=CEL+SAI
