I read about yo yo,I read about waxing wheels & I read about some jerk off named Pete. I see pictures of tug boats & even a few squid. Hot topic titled 'where are the fast cars?' had zero response. Does anybody out there have the balls to come out and try open road racing? Nevada shuts down up to 100 miles of first class state highway & allows us to run as fast as our safety equipment allows. Think of that. Run 150mph+ & the NHP shakes your hand & tells you what a nice run that was. They even have an all ladies team of Vette drivers! This board is populated by wheel waxers & pussies! At least take a peek at openroadracing.com!

Hey Rolo,
I tried high speed stuff a few times... (Yawn) I almost fell asleep. Maybe the reason why no one else responds is because this is sort of a younger group. I mean, you've got to be what, seventy years old? A man your age really had no other choices when it comes to motorsports. I mean, what other form of racing can you compete in where you get to take a nap in the middle of the race?
What's the big deal, once you do 150, or 170, or 190, or 210? It's not all that exciting. Ooh, look at the scenery going by really fast...

ROLO,
Let me just say that it its kind of cool at first to say you drive 170 mph for a little while, but I dont see the big deal. You're on the road by yourself with no opposing traffic. Hell, when you count the shoulders, you've got 4 lanes to yourself. Who wouldn't be able to drive that fast in those conditions? My car in street trim wouldn't have a problem.
Now, guys like me and DJ go 140 on a short piece of asphalt with other cars inches from our bumpers, all the while braking and shifting and turning . Now that takes balls!
I think DJ's right, you older guys probably like the sedateness of the open road stuff. Much easier to relax during an event. Oh yea, we don't want your ticker to get too stressed either.

EJ, You youngsters and your racing are all confused. It is far too dangerous racing each other inches away. How can you possibly tell where anyone is? Try the blind man approach. You know where the other cars are when you 'lean' on each other a bit.

My $0.02
Racing in the track is certainly exciting and equally risky at the same time. But driving top speed on an open road is not to the faint hearted also. As you travel at that speed you are pushing the limits of all the mechanical components and the rubber tires. Z rated or not, they still have the chance of having a blow out on you. And I can't even imagine what a blow out would be like traveling at 170 mph.
Personally I don't have the currage to do either, not ride in the car as a passenger. Just way too risky in my calculations.
With that said, why do you think I gave Roland the nick name "CFR".
Personally I think driving top speed on a open road course is a lot of more dangerous than driving on a track.

Sunday Driver, we get in big trouble when we start leaning on each other - just not worth it. But we do get pretty close, sometimes with in inches - where you expect to rub a little. Robin, No way CFR is that crazy - hell after a while 170 would just look like 70.

Last week, I had someone chop down on me (as I was passing him on the inside), and I got a one year ban from POC. Ouch! "It was determined that contact was avoidable", and since I was passing him, it's all my fault.

Yep, that's the one. Only it was no Cup or RS. It's a late 70's 911 tub, with 996 GT3R body work, 993 RSR suspension, and a 3.2 motor. The suspension was great, but the motor was a little weak. Only 2100 lbs, though, so as long as you got a good run out of the corners, it would breeze past the Cup Cars. I had an early spin, and then went from 29th to 15th in about 4 laps before I "ran into" a 996 Cup that didn't know I was there.
