I was just wondering how many of you out there may have or be in the process of supercharging a 993. I am interested in boosting the performance of my car and wanted to get peoples take on this. Anyone know of any decent web sites that cater for supercharging Porsches (993's) ?

The Rennlist site has several threads discussing superchargers, both in the 993 and Upgrades/Mods forums: Go to www.rennlist.org/ and click on "Web Boards" then pick the forum and do a search. You might have to register before doing a search. Haven't done it my self but here's a discussion thread on the Rennlist site (it contains links to other supercharger threads too): forums.rennlist.com/scripts/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002073Here's a link to the tuner that most refer to: www.turboperformance.com/(Robin: Sorry for redirecting guests, but I just wanted to point to an existing thread on the subject since I don't have any info. on it myself.

I just picked up my car after having the TPC kit installed. There is a definite performance boost in low to midrange. The car remains very drivable. My installer had to make several modifications to the installation (particularly the belt tensioner) to ensure reliability. This ran up the installation cost substantially. Bottom line is the kit does work, but ends up being fairly expensive.
I also added H&R coilovers. These are a definite improvement in handling and cornering. The ride is mildly firmer, but not harsh.

Robert - Can you elaborate on the mods that your installer did to the kit? I'd be very interested in it as I too have considered the TPC SC but not if it will eventually detroy the engine. TIA

My installers did not alter the basic kit. TPC has a new digital management system that I opted for. This allows some fine tuning of the system. The shop performed a run on a dyno and adjusted the system for minimal knocking.
The major installation issue involves the belt tensioner mounting. The standard kit has the unit bolted to the rear engine mount. This allows enough flex so that the belt would not track properly. My shop welded on a reinforcing bracket and bolted this to another chasis spot. The system seems rigid and the belt is tracking well.
Durability is obviously an issue. For street use with only occaisional boost use, it seems to work well. For track use, you'd probably want a bigger oil cooler.
TPC is working on a stage 2 kit with more boost and an intercooler. This will require some engine work to fit lower compression pistons but should deliver incredible performance.
My installer had previously done a supercharger of knoxville kit. He felt the TPC kit was better designed and executed. However there still seem to be a few details in the TPC kit that can be refined.
