So the NEW & IMPROVED funcars will be a safer place because registration is secure. No more yahoo or hotmail, and IP addresses have to be REAL. Bwaahaahaahaahaa. It seems that many LEGITIMATE users have given up and are going elsewhere since they want to use yahoo or hotmail. The bad element, however, has thousands of places to get free 'throw-away' accounts and thousands of REAL IP addresses. Hey CFG - Do you know what the phrase "Shooting yourself in the foot" means.

www184.pair.com/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/cfg986/996/main.pl?read=115832I emailed a copy of the post, not a link, so deleting it does no good. I didn't see how to paste it in here. Since I am on vacation from Funcars, would someone please make sure that Petey knows what happened to his pretty picture, along with his description, email, etc.

I didn't exactly give all the details in the first post about CHP. I have a relative who is CHP in the NorCal area. I spoke to him about the post and he chased down all the needed info. He then called the appropriate area supervisor to give them the info and had me eMail that person with the post. All done with my real identity and I got a very nice response from the CHP supervisor.

I have to agree that posting your top speed is a bit silly but blame the American Way with its rediculous speed limits. Just about everyone there grew up under "55 saves lives". But Serious' CHP stunt is also a bit silly. A photo like that isn't going to do it. Maybe a videotape showing the place and time and person and speed might. But even then you might have problems. I once heard of a Japanese prosecution based upon this sort of evidence but I don't know if it is true or not. Pete's photo doesn't give a place (needs to be in the district of California where it is prosecuted). Doesn't give a time (what law was effective when). Doesn't even tell you that it was public roads. Doesn't identify the accused. In fact, it is pretty useless really. Pete's post is basically just light entertainment designed to get a little attention ... just like your own posts. S.

Hey fixed wing, are you some sort of California lawyer? Just wondering cause you seem to know an awful lot about California law. Maybe you studied there before moving back to Belgium to practice?
Since you are from Europe, maybe you heard about the Frenchman who was arrested and is currently in jail because of a video he made screaming around Paris in his F40 at night. Never saw the guys face, but he's still in jail. Maybe France has tighter laws than California?

Huh, you call that entertainment? Those are far too boring compared to SeriousDriver's posts. Nop. I call it "basically just light entertainment designed to get a little attention". You'll have to make your own personal evaluation of how boring Serious' posts are. On my credentials ... what I said pretty much goes for anywhere in the USA. They all follow the same precidents. The reason that I said that there might be some other requirements is because there might just be some specific statutes which need to be met in California that I'm not aware of. One thing special about California that I forgot to mention before is that they have a very short statute of limitations on speeding (goes to the time issue). So Pete probably could "own up" and still be in good shape. I'm an attorney but not admitted in California. Wasn't aware of the F40 in Paris. I can imagine that someone doing that in a city might be facing more than speeding charges. Although, traffic in Paris is all pretty crazy so how someone could manage to stand out is beyond me. The guy in Japan was the head of some sort of Ferrari club and decided to make and sell a video. Dumb move. S.

The dumb ass in Paris did the same thing as the dumb ass in Tokyo did which is the same thing the dumbass in California did.
You draw your own conclusions.

Fixedwing (Stephen in Belgium), let me explain.
I guess I overestimated the intelligence of the new readers here. The old group knows the drill.
Of course the CHP is not going to chase down Petey because of that post. You are correct in stating the obvious - no date, location, etc. What they do is flag his license plate and driver's license numbers in the computer - all since he is so stupid to have posted his email, website and general location. I was told that CHP does track this stuff and catches a number of street racers because of their bragging on the internet.
If I was lied to, then no big deal for me and Petey has nothing to worry about. On the other hand...

First of all, did Pete ever say he was in CA? No. Are you going to go around on all the boards and report everyone in the whole country to the CHP? I'm sure they love to hear about non-CA residents speeding outside of CA. Next, how do you think the CHP is going to get Pete's license number from that post? And do you think they would actually "flag" his license even if they somehow got it based on a post in a totally public forum? And was he even racing? What you need to do is get a life. Do you even drive a Porsche? If you have one, just go enjoy it and stop worrying about what people do on deserted highways far away from you.

I will try to type R-E-A-L S-L-O-W-L-Y so you can follow along. Yes, Petey lives in CA. In the Bay area, in fact. Not only do I know this from other sources, he has posted this many times. Given the photo taken while driving at high speed, there is interest. Do you really think it is hard for CHP, or any agengy, to find the vehicle and driver's license number of someone, given their full name and address? S-h-o-u-l-d I s-a-y t-h-a-t a-g-a-i-n f-o-r y-o-u? Finally, folks like you ARE my life. I only live to piss off limp dicks such as yourself. This is so much fun. Let's keep going, shall we? SD p.s. - Nice to have a partly sunny day before the forecasted rain tonight, isn't it? A little chilly right now for my taste, but better than the rain.

And I'll be sure to try and explain things a bit more clearly for you this time as well. It's the INTERNET. Things are OPEN. Anyone can post anything they want on that board. And that means that Pete might not be Pete. Pete could be lying about where he's from. You don't know for a fact that Pete lives in CA other than some post you saw. And if that's the case, your evidence is totally bogus. The CHP can't use that against anyone in any kind of investigation. Any one with the smallest amount of knowledge about the way the board works can shoot down your "evidence" in a heartbeat. But let's put all that aside and assume you're right. Let's say that you know exactly where Pete lives and who he REALLY is and even know his license number. Who cares? You can't prevent him from having a little fun in his Porsche...and if he isn't hurting anyone, who cares. If this IS your life, then I feel very sorry for you. If you live in CA, go outside and enjoy the weather or something. You need some time away from the computer. P.S. Ummmm...ok...and the blue hornet flies at dawn...or something.
